The President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Jean Claude Kassi BROU expressed his support for this initiative by the company “Ivoire Hydro Energy”, which is entirely privately financed and has the approval of the Ivorian government. The future dam, whose commissioning is scheduled for March 2023, will have a capacity of 44 Megawatts.
On a visit to Côte d’Ivoire, the President of the ECOWAS Commission, His Excellency Jean-Claude Kassi BROU, visited on Thursday, March 4, 2021, the construction site of the hydroelectric development project underway in the Singrobo-Ahouaty area, on the Bandama River, about 190 km from Abidjan. The project is an initiative of the company “Ivoire Hydro Energy” and its financing is entirely private; it has been approved by the State. The future dam, whose commissioning is scheduled for March 2023, will have a capacity of 44 Megawatts. The visit took place at the invitation of the Chairman and CEO of “Ivoire Hydro Energy”.
Accompanied by the ECOWAS Resident Representative in Côte d’Ivoire, the President of the Commission was able to witness the efforts made by the project promoter to rigorously comply with the environment, fully assume the company’s social responsibilities and contribute to the employment of local populations, particularly the youth.
At the end of his visit, President Jean-Claude Kassi BROU addressed his warm congratulations to the promoter of the hydroelectric dam project and his partners and extended his encouragement to them. He seized this opportunity to inform them of the particular interest of ECOWAS in energy. In this regard, he mentioned the existence of an energy department at the Commission, the active support to Member States’ electrification efforts, the solidarity among Member States through the West African Power Pool (WAPP), and the interconnection of national grids, as well as the promotion of renewable energies, as evidenced by the creation of the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREE).
